A word from @mixue_89 today💫
When we start to speak a foreign language, it’s likely that we’ll have an accent. 口音 kǒuyīn!
⭐️
It takes time to get rid of it. In the beginning it’s usually strong, but as we get used to the sound of language, get confident in WHAT we say and start paying attention to HOW we say it, it gets better!
⭐️
口音不太重
Kǒuyīn bú tài zhòng – The accent isn’t too heavy
口音不明显
Kǒuyīn bù míngxiǎn – The accent isn’t strong
口音很标准
Kǒuyīn hěn biāozhǔn – The accent is authentic

Are you working on your 口音?
What are your tactics to get better?
If we look a little into language learning, pronunciation is made of three key elements:
💙Sounds
Or the “building bricks” of any language. If you learn how to pronounce every consonant (f, l, zh, j, etc) and vowel (a, i, ü, etc) in Mandarin – that will give you a good start, and you’ll be able to read any word from the dictionary😃
💜Words
In a word, some syllables might be toned, or stressed more than others. For example, shí and hóu together can become shíhou without the second tone. Make sure to check the dictionary and listen to the words pronounced by native speakers👂🏼
(Become a “parrot” and copy all the nuances of pronunciation, even if it sounds strange to your own ears🐥)
💚Sentences
The last level is intonation and the so-called “melody” of the language – pauses between phases, tone of voice, etc. It’s hard simply because it takes time, but it’s totally possible and EVERYONE can do it😊
Listening is your friend here: movies, podcasts, radio, anything coming from native speakers. Even if you understand very little in the beginning, it’s fine.
Remember to be a parrot🙌🏻
⭐️⭐️⭐️
And don’t worry much about your accent as you learn! For many Chinese, Mandarin isn’t their first language either. They grew up speaking their regional dialects, and they too have accents😊
南方口音 – southern accent
北方口音 – northern accent
