#LocalFriday here💫
Today’s word can be relevant to you not only if you decide to 装修 zhuāngxiū your own house👩🏻🔧👨🏻🔧
⭐️
装 zhuāng – to install, assemble
修 xiū – to fix
⭐️
装修 zhuāngxiū – to renovate, redecorate; refurbish; renovation
⭐️⭐️
First, 装修 zhuāngxiū might be the source of the noise in your neighbours‘ apartment.
What’s that sound?
他们在装修房子 Tāmen zài zhuāngxiū fángzi (They’re renovating the house)😑
⭐️⭐️
Second, it might be the reason why your favourite restaurant suddenly closes. You’ll see a notice on the door saying [正在装修中 Zhèngzài zhuāngxiū zhōng] (“Under renovation”)
⭐️⭐️
Finally, if you rent an apartment, that might be the word to use with your landlord. Some things, like putting paintings on the walls, you can do yourself – but some will need external help ⚒
⭐️⭐️⭐️
How would you say “My house needs renovation”?
@gazia.alawal: 我的房子要装修。*doesn’t feel right though 😅*
@yourmandarin: @gazia.alawal 🏅👍 It’s all right! You can just add 需 xū (“需要装修”)
@manu_canc: 我的房子需要装修一下。
@amandaswampler: Wo de fangzi xuyao zhuangxiu OR wo de jia xuyao zhuangxiu (which is better?)
@kevintanoyo: 我的家需要装修。
@yourmandarin: @amandaswampler 👍 great question! Actually both are fine! Only in #2 you’d perhaps want to add 里 lǐ, “Jiā li xūyào zhuāngxiū” (家里需要装修)😉
@ayahossam.tota: 我的家要装修。
