A word from @miss_arnscottblue✨
Do you have a 老板 lǎobǎn?
Or are you your own 老板 lǎobǎn?
⭐️
老 lǎo – old
(meaning “seasoned” and “experienced”)
板 bǎn – hard; stiff
(as in 板正 bǎnzhèng, “neat” and “upright”)
⭐️
老板 lǎobǎn – boss
⭐️
It’s a colloquial way to call your boss, especially when you talk about him/her in the third person:
我的老板 wǒde lǎobǎn – my boss
我的老板是北方人 wǒde lǎobǎn shì běifāngrén – My boss is from the North of China
⭐️⭐️
In a conversation with your boss though, you probably won’t call him 老板. Different companies have different ways – my colleagues, for example, choose to call our boss by first name, or last name + 老师 lǎoshī (which doesn’t mean “teacher”, just a respectful way to call a superior)
⭐️⭐️
But you can use 老板 lǎobǎn to address shop owners, fruit stall vendors, etc:
💻 老板,在吗?Lǎobǎn, zài ma?
(When you start a live chat on Taobao and ask if the vendor is online)
🍎 老板,苹果怎么卖?Lǎobǎn, píngguǒ zěnme mài?
(When you want to buy apples and ask the stall owner how much they are)
⭐️⭐️⭐️
How would you say “Thanks boss”?😄
(A common reply when your friends send you money on WeChat)
