It’s time for you to meet the King today👑

It’s the biggest online shopping platform in China – Taobao!

淘宝

📱💻🏐🎁

It’s part of China’s tech giant, Alibaba, that went public in 2014 and became the largest IPO in history.

⭐️

Just imagine a website that EVERYONE in China knows, and uses every day to buy things.

⭐️

If you are already in China – experience it first hand!

There are great articles on the web explaining step-by-step how to register and order things on TaoBao. For example, blog TechinAsia.com wrote a super extensive guide. 👁

For learners outside China – no rush! You’ll get there.

Let’s just meet the beast today😄

🔥

Challenge:

1. Go to taobao.com.

2. Look at the general layout of the website. Note how much stuff there is on the main page. Don’t read it in detail – it’s not necessary. Just look at the pictures, and try to ignore the noise.

3. Find the search bar.

4. Type in “shoujike”. Choose the characters 手机壳 that it will suggest you, and add to it “iphone6s”.

5. Press enter😁

6. In the list of search results, choose the item that costs ¥25.00.

7. Visit this item’s page by clicking on it.

8. Write in comments what this item is, and how much its original price was before the discount 💪🏼

@yourmandarin Non-native speakers can now use baopals.com – they have translated taobao into English including sorting by departments. Unlike agents they don’t charge fees (unless you want them to process your shipment), and they have amazing customer service in English! Even over Wechat👍

@sailedawaytochina this is wonderful!! Looks like they have much less variety than Taobao, but at least it should be good quality👍🏼👍🏼  Thanks for sharing!

sailedawaytochina

They have everything that’s on taobao – it’s a direct translation . Results might just depend on your search wording. You can copy and paste a link feom a taobao item if you want. Or use translated search option. Check out the FAQ’s on their site or Wechat to find out more about how to get more accurate search results. The quality is exactly the same – still buying from Taobao sellers 😂  But you can choose to buy from Tmall sellers only if you prefer to buy only from verified companies instead of individuals. @yourmandarin

This site really great but I can’t buy from there 😞

yourmandarin

@sailedawaytochina ooh I see! I just saw some concrete numbers for categories, and thought they choose the stores they work with manually 🙂 That’s really cool then! And looks much cleaner than Taobao😁
