This post is a bonus to the previous post on the difference between 别的 (biéde, other) and 其他的 (qítā de, other).
⭐️
We mentioned the phrase 另一个 (lìngyīge, another) there too, but didn’t stress that its grammar is special🗝
Have you guessed in which way?
The answer is, since 个 is a measure word, depending on the following noun, it won’t always be 个!
⭐️
For example, count ‘matters’ and ‘things’ (事情 shìqing or 事 shì) using the measure word 件 jiàn:
🤔一件事就是 …, 另一件事就是 …
Yíjiàn shì jiù shì… , língyī jiàn shì jiù shì…
One thing is… Another thing is…
⭐️⭐️
Or clothes:
👕另一件衣服
lìngyī jiàn yīfu
another piece of clothes
⭐️⭐️
Or take other measure words:
🗣 另一种说法 lìngyī zhǒng shuōfǎ – another way of saying
🐕 另一只狗 lìngyī zhī gǒu – another dog
🏪 另一家店 lìngyī jiā diàn – another store
⭐️⭐️⭐️
How would you say “another cat”, “another person”, “another street”?
@mademoiselle.elmira: 很好❤

@yourmandarin: @mbphotographerprato 😄 另一*条*裤子 (👖裤子 are special👀)
@mbphotographerprato: @yourmandarin è vero ! Dimenticavo che con le cose lunghe ci vuole il 条!
@kkxinfu: Does the yi1 in ling4yi1 follow the usual tone sandhi? I seem to recall reading somewhere that it doesn’t but somehow can’t find it discussed anywhere now
@yourmandarin: @kkxinfu In speech I guess you can use the same rules for tone change! I’ve noticed that too, in writing, they never indicate tone change even in dictionaries☹️
@mcz_te: 另一隻貓,另一位人,另一條街道
